  1. What the....? For heaven shake, they react like they watch fireworks!Don't they realise what that meant?? If iceburgs do fall like this I don't think there will be many of them after next summer, which btw is expected to be much hotter than the one we had...
  2. Wow!I would be just too scared to cycle among so many cars, and those guys do it so easily!I wish we could cycle like that here too,but the roads suck!If anyone tried it they would surely be dead...So lucky those countries who have nice roads...
  3. I wish it were that simple Simon, but it's not. They don't care about just one or two persons that want eco bags.It would have an effect ono them if we were more than 50 or something.Otherwise they don't mind.
  4. I agree, too cool and suitable for christmas gifts!
  5. I always reuse my plastic bags, but it's not good enough.I wish our supermarkets start to import eco bags.We are sooo behind from other countries
  6. Couldn't agree more with you,and welcome to the forum! I hate plastic bags, here in greece we can't find any eco bags easily. So we have no choice than using plastic ones. It's aweful when you think of it.
  7. Seems to be a really good report...Though deep inside us we all know most of the things. At times we have heard of them on radios, read them in newpapers etc etc.But it will contribute to the informing of many people.Quite important.
  8. The accurate term for this phenomenon is acid precipitation,as it does not only occur with rain. When saying acid rain, we generally refer to the deposition of acidic components in rain, snow, fog, dew, even to dry particles. The rain is always a bit acid, due to the excistence of carbon dioxide in the earth's atmosphere. When it exists in small quantities, it reacts with water to produce carbonic acid, which is weak and harmless. So, clean or unpolluted rain has a slightly acidic pH of 5.6 (having grade 7 as neutral) However, this is not the case when we talk about acid rain. Human activities have increased carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases (term for gases that cause the greenhouse effect) primarily sulfur oxides and nitrogen oxides. Those, with water in the air, react to form strong acids (sulfuric and nitric acids) which are not at all harmless. On the contrary they are the ones to be blamed for every catastrophe acid rain cause. But how can we stop this phenomenon? The human activities mentioned before do not only include the large industries and factories, but each and every citizen. Wanting to stop acid rain and all its concequences, people have to reduce their carbon dioxide and other emissions. From the most important ones, like stop using cars, to the slightly blamed, like stop covering walls with graffities, we know what to do and we have to do it now. Image credit: Cm195902. 9. Don't be that strict simon, ecogames can be of help sometimes.Especially with children. They learn to love the environment through them
  10. Soooo happy to have Daim back with us! Yeah,we've missed you!
  11. Welcome to the forum mike20! Wow,the website you sent is super cool,I had never even heard of ecogames! Some of them are pretty nice too. We should suggest it to friends and staff, especially to children.Cos such games will help them develop love torwards nature...
  12. No,I guess we don't.But consuming electricity is more preferable than fuels right? Yeah, your new avatar rocks, though looking it for a while makes you like hat
  13. Seems pretty cool and effective. And they will surely make it even better and better btw Simon, your new avatar is really funny(and dizzy if you look at it for a while)
  14. Thank you Simon,it was most illuminating!
  15. Rofl!!I have no comments....
  16. I will come to Porto anyway sometime, wont miss it!
  17. I hope we could find sonething on the net though, the company had promised such a big change,it would be a shame not to make it happen...
  18. Why are they so silly though?(I mean all governments) Politicians and scientists tell people to reduce the energy they use,but they themselves wont help us with that, nor do anything to make us follow their example.Since citizens can't do anything without encouragement, politicians have to help them on.
  19. A wind turbine! They are supposed to be really good,I've heard so many things about the energy they produce. Agree with onlygreennogray, many other institutions and organisations have to adopt such methods as soon as possible. Guestion:I had heard TOYOTA was going green, the company had promised to make the factories more environmental friendly untill 2008.Can we find out if they actually did some of the things promised?

    yard upkeep

Sounds pretty cool!(I think the thread belongs to living green though ) I myself don't have a lawn, but I'd like to recommend it to others.Any more details about it?Although I think we can find similar ones on the market,we only have to look for them.
  21. Lol,nice irony onlygreennogray! We used to have the biggest Christmas tree till some years ago,I guess we'll be selfish enough to have a bigger one again... Anyway, every country wants to show off a bit to the others,it is ridiculous...As if they prove their power in this way...they can't see the concequences of their actions
  22. Just some thoughts which are great indeed Simon! Well,I guess all governments know all these things, and they may even know of some better solutions...The question is, why are they so silly to look only the profits of the day and not the long-term ones??
  23. Almost all of human activities are connected with the environmental destruction. Food consumption is one of the most major factors and surprisingly, it mostly affects the sea and marine life. Fish is proved to be a healthy meal which provides humans with considerable needed substances and nutritions. This, along with many other reasons, have led to the mass consumption of most kinds of marine life worldwide. Even species we don't consume are in danger, mainly due to the methods used to fish the others. Bottom trawling is the recent most destructive way of catching fish. All fish not wanted are thrown dead back into the sea. Not to mention the complete destruction of coral reefs and sea bed. All these happen because the world market, and thus consumers, demand fish on almost daily basis. We must all act if we want to save marine life before it is too late. Since fish is vital for us and we cannot possibly stop eating it, we must choose the species less overfished and reduce the frequency of eating them to once a week (doctors say we don't need more anyway). So we can't eat, for example, bluefin tuna every night. We shouldn't be thinking that others don't follow our example and thus we don't make a difference. More and more people get to understand the problem and change their habits. Even if we don't know any of them,we must make our effort and stick to it. Image credit: Patotenere. 24. Isn't it a great song??I liked it from the beginning and still listen to it often, even it's been quite a long time...I think it should have been between the ten best songs, but of course people couldn't see its meaning...
  25. Here in Greece I think people actually compete with one another about who is going to put the most excessive Christmas decoration. And of course lights are on the top of the list...It is sooo ugly, and of course, more and more energy is wasted...I get angry every Christmas with all those people who don't think of the concequences of their actions...
