  1. Spending programs helped Sweden overcome its financial crisis in the 90's. They are proven to work to get the economy back into shape again. I trust Obama more when it comes to making the economy work than old grandpa McBush and his joke to vice president Sarah religious nutcase Palin. All you can come up with to scare people away from the democrats is the usual "omigod they will raise your taxes!!!".. But the truth is, democrats cares about the people and the republicans just want to screw everyone around and make themselves rich and happy. Fact is that when USA has had a Democratic president the country has been respected around the World and the country has been better off in all kinds of ways. And fact is when Republicans are ruling USA they take away the democracy, they piss on your constitution, they mess up the economy, lowers public funding to education etc and they frak you all over.
  2. As of September 23 we humans have used all the resources our earth can produce this year. That means we are borrowing resources from 2009 and that we are literally consuming our children’s resources. And as each year passes Earth Overshoot Day happens earlier and earlier. Last year Earth Overshoot Day happened on October 6. Then we consumed 30% more natural resources than what the earth can reproduce under a whole year. Now in 2008 that number has increased with 10% as the Global Footprint Network expects us to use 140% of the Earths resources. "Globally, we now require the equivalent of 1.4 planets to support our lifestyles. But of course, we only have one Earth. The result is that our supply of natural resources -- like trees and fish -- continues to shrink, while our waste, primarily carbon dioxide, accumulates." Some countries contribute more to these numbers than others do. If everyone lived like a resident of the following countries we would need this many earths: United States 5.4 Earths Canada 4.2 Earths United Kingdom 3.1 Earths Germany 2.5 Earths Italy 2.2 Earths South Africa 1.4 Earths Argentina 1.2 Earths Costa Rica 1.1 Earths India 0.4 Earths What do you think? How can we manage to overcome our increasing consumption rate and overpopulation? And how can one personally contribute to ending the Overshoot Day?
  3. Either you are just trolling or you want USA to go under, litterally.
  4. Yes, but drilling for more oil won't lower energy or gas prices. It's just a lie. ---------- I know I haven't been updating this list with new links... But here is a new one: Jack Cafferty: If Sarah Palin Being One Heartbeat Away "Doesn't Scare The Hell Out Of You, It Should"
  5. How come? :thoughtful:
  6. I thought Fahrenheit 9/11 was pretty good. But if I remember it right I liked Bowling for Columbine more. Dunno really. This new film was OK. I guess I am not the right person to judge as I live outside of US of A. If you are interested in the US election this is a film you could want to see. Hey, its free, so no loss! :cute:
  7. Simon

    Organic coffee?

I agree. Its really funny! :)
  8. Hi and welcome to the forum! I hope you will have a great time here. If you have any questions don't be afraid to ask. The link to your website doesn't work. :(
  9. I watched the debate. I would say none of the candidates clearly won. But in my eyes Obama won this debate. This debate topic should have been an easy thing for McCain but all he show was ignorance and stupidity. What was up with the lie about Pakistan that McCain tried? And the comment that north koreans are smaller than south koreans? Obama looked and behaved more presidential than McCain. And. Fox "News" is the republican propaganda machine. Sort of like Joseph Goebbels was in nazi Germany.
  10. Besides changing the climate and environment for people around the world the loss of Arctic sea ice is destroying the habitats for polar bears. Recently we reported about polar bears swimming to Iceland trying to find food and land. And now scientists are reporting that the starving polar bears are desperately resorting to killing and feeding on other polar bears as their natural habitats are rapidly being destroyed by man-made global warming. "The Arctic sea ice melt is a disaster for the polar bears," according to Kassie Siegel, staff attorney for the Center for Biological Diversity. "They are dependent on the Arctic sea ice for all of their essential behaviors, and as the ice melts and global warming transforms the Arctic, polar bears are starving, drowning, even resorting to cannibalism because they don't have access to their usual food sources." Scientists have noticed increasing reports of starving Arctic polar bears attacking and feeding on one another in recent years. In one documented 2004 incident in northern Alaska, a male bear broke into a female's den and killed her. Unfortunately there seems to be no light in the tunnel for the polar bears. A new preliminary report from NASA shows that the sea ice at the Arctic continues to disappear and that the ice-levels this year has reached the second-lowest level on record.
  11. Letterman rants about global warming on his show in early September saying "We're Dead Meat". He also talks with Thomas Friedman about his new book titled "Hot, Flat, and Crowded - Why We Need a Green Revolution - And How it Can Renew America". Both video clips are worth checking out and can be found below:
  12. See, I didn't know that. Thanks! :cute:
  13. I am sorry, but it seems your image is not working anymore. Care to re-upload it? :)
  14. The auto industry shows its true face yet again! :yuck:
  15. Few politicians in history have more successfully sold a phony image about caring for the environment than Sen. John McCain. His deceptions and distortions and lies would fill a book. Read the whole article: John McCain's hot air Related: Sarah Palin’s awful environmental record
  16. Photographer Nicky Bonne travels to the Danish island of Samso, where the residents have completely eradicated its carbon footprint by using wind power. Everyone on the island owns a turbine, and with its simple grid of solar power, wind farms and sheep, it's selling its power to the mainland. Click here to see the image gallery!
  17. I don't have an garage as I live in an apartment. Where I live everyone must compost and recycle their waste. All these containers and stuff comes from the company that owns these apartments. I haven't installed any of them. I dont use plastic bags, just reusable bags. The plastics I am talking about is "soft" plastics. You know, plastics bags that arent really bags (!) and plastic that is wrapped around food etc. These are called "burnable" materials here and is sent to be burn in a local district heating plant where they are used to create district heating. At least some of it is, I am not sure if everything is created into district heating or just being flamed to death, so to say. Burning these plastics creates water and CO2.
  18. The Guardian quotes a statement from the UK Met Office, one of the world's leading providers of environmental and weather-related services: "Anyone who thinks global warming has stopped has their head in the sand. The evidence is clear, the long-term trend in global temperatures is rising, and humans are largely responsible for this rise. Global warming does not mean that each year will be warmer than the last." Read more: Met Office says climate change deniers deluded
  19. http://slackeruprising.com Has anyone seen the movie/documentary? What did you think about it? Oh, and if you go to pirate bay you can find the movie as a torrent.. :cute:
  20. The new Windows Live Messenger 2009 Beta is now available for download! It looks better than ever and has some nice new features. Read more: Live Messenger 2009 Beta Looking Good Download: http://windows-live-messenger.en.softonic.com/
  21. General Motors vice-chairman Bob Lutz is at it again. But this time he doesn't deny climate change, just the science. During an interview with comedian Stephen Colbert last week Bob Lutz was asked if climate change is being caused by "sunspots". He answered that "in the opinion of about 32,000 of the world's leading scientists, yes." These 32000 people are not "the world's leading scientists". They are, as DeSmogBlog puts it, "a self-selected group of people whose science credentials are modest or non-existent and who are led by the man who was big tobacco's leading apologist." Good job Bob Lutz, spreading global warming denialism while promoting an eco-friendly car. That's brightness! No wonder GM is in such a mess.
  22. If I could re-vote I would also vote for Delicious. I've used Delicious in the past. You know. Before Yahoo! bought them. But back then I wasn't so fond of it. But now... I love their new re-design and decided to register a new account. And I love it so much. :)
  23. The increased threat of climate change and environmental degradation is effecting the world of tourism. Travelers are flocking to critically endangered habitats and ecosystems before they vanish. Read it! One might ask, "Is it appropriate, or even ethical, to travel to threatened destinations?" Does it help make climate change more visible?
  24. At least nine people have been killed and several others seriously wounded in a shooting spree at a vocational college in Finland, local reports say. Police said the gunman, thought to be a 20-year-old student, then shot himself although his condition is now unclear. He was carrying an automatic weapon and wearing a ski mask when he entered the college in Kauhajoki, reports said. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/7630969.stm This is horrific! But, if you have the most pro-gun laws in Europe this is what can happen, twice. :yuck:
  25. The president of South Korea biked to work. Nearly 30,000 cyclists took to the streets of Taiwan's capital. European cities asked their residents to keep cars parked for the good of the planet. An EU spokeswoman says that some 200 million people from more than 1,650 cities in 37 countries participated in some way in World Carfree Day. Did you? http://switchboard.nrdc.org/blogs/sdodd/ho...e_world_ca.html For me personally, every day is a carfree day. :)
