Growing some and finding the best local farmers markets for the rest has proven to be a reasonable solution. Many regular markets are now trying to buy local and organic to save on shipping as well and many of the larger markets have set aside sections so you know you are buying local organic.

Think it depends on which applications that you run and the ones that you may be required to run. Suse has not covered all of the bases in the application area. I still like Firefox over E7

Well, You have to read the fine print French President Nicolas Sarkozy has launched a new international body with 43 member nations aimed at ending conflict in the Middle East. The Union for the Mediterranean will tackle issues such as regional unrest, immigration to pollution. Its not the EU but the UM. And from what I have read other places large scale solar plants are a small part but not sure their target is Europe but the countries that border the Mediterranean.

Not going to happen, the democratic party has too many fingerprints on the gun to call for a CSI investigation. All they are going to do is huff and puff until the election and then, poof, all problems go away. Have to remember that you cannot impeach someone after they are out of office and they cannot impeach someone that THEY assisted in anything they might accuse him of.

Why is climate change not in the USA primaries?
mountainhiker replied to mountainhiker's topic in Politics and Current Events
Crazy maybe, but not treehuggers by default. They have had some leaders that were not too far off the line but this lady they endorsed is a true basket case. She is totally self centered and makes no attempt to resolve the issues of the day but instead comes up with new issues that create more problems. Most voters are not looking for a candidate to make things worse!!! :thoughtful: -
Why is climate change not in the USA primaries?

The Greens pretty well shot them selves in the foot with the nut case they have running. No, a real third party has to have valid candidates. Not a nut of the moment program. -

Many are convinced that a valid third party is needed. Considering the current split in the democratic party, ultra liberals vs middle of the road liberals and you can see some need. Hillary is still a major force and her supporters are hacked off due votes being not counted and the fact that the "party elite" did not tap her as "queen Hillary". Obama HAS to get enough middle of the road votes to overcome this or he cannot get elected. He made the correct choice by swinging to the middle but the UL's are screaming sell out! May really need a middle of the road party that can borrow from both the left and the right. -
Well, just how much reporting do you see going on about the PPM in China where the "games" are being held. Media is SILENT! Few pics that show more PPM than any other place on earth yet the media has not even raised the issue as being an problem! We are seeing politically correct news, liberal or conservative!

Americans have had Chimney's that sealed for years (standard practice) and the other items you mentioned are not "slowly" finding their way into US homes but quickly. CFL bulbs are widely sold in home improvement stores and in many places are "pushed" by local governments and the home improvement stores. Sorry to pop your bubble but the US is not as bad off as you are trying to imply.

The issue is we are not going to make the jump overnight. We have to develop an economy based on efficient transportation and clean, free sources of energy but in the mean time we still have to have access to cheaper oil and there is only one way to do that. Countries like China are never going to break from Coal until the price of energy from Sun and Wind can be brought down.
-
As long as China has a major commitment to coal - G8 will never be against it. And I did notice the commit by someone who is dumb enough to think it is all Bush's fault. That is another reason that it got nowhere. As some point people are going to have to admit that this is not a simple problem and everything is not the fault of the US.
-
And if you cannot get China and India to go along with it, it does not make any difference what the rich countries agree to.

Biofuels caused food crisis according to secret report
mountainhiker replied to Green Blog's topic in Energy
one, the report was someones opinion, not the result of a study. also if you follow the news in China, the rising demand is huge. -
Low energy PC makes a lot more sense than wasting time changing from Windows to Linux and spending massive amounts of time trying to find replacement applications..... :thoughtful:

I love it when shallow minds like these two start using terms like ecofascist. I doubt that the fresh blood they need is more people on welfare! Just how is that going to keep the system going? Negative attacks like this on the EU never bring any resolution to any issue.... :sceptical: and show how little understanding of the term fascist that these really have.

Biofuels caused food crisis according to secret report

Politically motivated pile of crap, should have remained secret! How can you dismiss drought and rising demand as part of the equation! :info: -
When you see a chart like this you really have to wonder how accurate it really is and if it was truly done under controlled conditions. Considering the source, that is not likely. Also at that level of time no one would ever "see" any difference between any of these browsers. In other words, there is no ROI to changing from Windows to Linux to attain no "seeable" value.

White House tried to silence EPA on emissions
mountainhiker replied to Simon's topic in Climate Change
Considering that almost ALL of the new solar projects are on private land that has no effect at all. Any projects on public land would have to be Federal projects and the Congress is so screwed up they could not get the bill passed in two years. -
Airship will help the US coastguard to chase smugglers
mountainhiker replied to Green Blog's topic in Transportation
They have another attribute that makes them ideal, lack of noise, that means they could cover lots of territory and may never be seen. -
That's ok Simon, because they are not real sure themselves. Note the sentence "Another implication of the study is greater uncertainty in estimates of long-term ocean warming rates". One of the key issues with all of the cries of "Wolf, Wolf" concerning Global Warming is that they really don't know the true facts. It has not been that long since the same people were forecasting another ice age. In reality, they don't know all the factors in the equation and how much each one contributes to the overall sum. :thoughtful:

The folders in my bookmarks are sort of light tan, will check and see if we have any way of changing the folders icon.....

American or British? Running US version

Mine does not have yellow folders either!

Not sure if you are still in Virginia, but check with the local county government. Henrico County does have some public dumps that you can use for I think $3.00.
