  2. It probably first started when Discovery Communications bought TreeHugger earlier this summer. That meant the start of a more commercialized TreeHugger. Cause in the end all that matters for Discovery Communications is that they make money from TreeHugger. So doing paid blog posts wasn’t probably a hard choice to make. But what exactly is paid blog posts then? Well, paid blog posts are actually advertisement posted as a regular post on a blog. Most blogs that does this usually disclose that the post in question is a paid advertisement. I personally don’t see anything wrong with TreeHugger doing a few paid blog posts now and then. It’s sad that they do, but it’s not a problem, at least not for me. The problem is that they do not tell their visitors that what they read is an advertisement from a company that has paid the author to post about certain things. And that is just stupidity and disrespect for your readers who trust that you give them truthful content that isn’t mixed in some way. TreeHugger needs to get it acts together and properly disclose that the blog post you are currently reading is a paid advertisement. Otherwise TreeHuggers good reputation is at stake. Here are two examples of paid blog posts on TreeHugger for those who are interested: - In An Absolut World...Everything is Downloadable - In An Absolut World: David Graas
  3. Boblbee, the iPod solar charger from Dododi in Japan is not only green and cool. It is also shock proof and water proof which is great when you are “out in the field” doing some dirty work or just hiking in the mountains. Heck, you can even just use it in your window at home. Another good design aspect is that this solar charger has rounded panels. That means you can charge your iPod out in the sun the whole day long without moving it around. Sounds great? Yes it really does. There is just one problem. The solar charger is only sold in Japan and I have no idea what kind of shipping and price it has. The translated version is kind of funny to read. Anyone from Japan that can help!?
  4. Polar bears are getting quite a lot of media attention these days because of global warming and people are becoming more familiar with them. But here's a side of them that we don't see every day: The playful side. Above is a wild male polar bear, about 1,200lbs and probably hadn't eaten in 4 months, playing with sled dogs in the North of Manitoba, Canada. This is not a unique event, it happens more often than we think in nature. Don't try this at home, though. via http://www.treehugger.com/files/2007/09/a_...ure_is_wo_3.php
  5. [youtube:b9341] [/youtube:b9341] The Carteret Islands off the coast of Papua New Guinea are drowning as a result of climate change related sea level rise. Read More: http://www.greenpeace.org/australia/news-and-events/news/Climate-change/pacific-islands-drowning[/url:b9341]
  6. I don't have anything against Linux or open softwares. But, I just can't use it today. I cant do the work I need on a Linux OS. I cant play any kind of "good" and modern games on a Linux OS. Yes, it's true that if more people use Linux more and more companies and sites will make their products compatible with Linux. But unfortunately it will be years until that happens. And it doesn't help when the above stated things doesnt work. It is also true that Linux/UNIX operating systems are safer and has far less viruses etc. But, if you just use common sense and a good antivirus/firewall program and an up-to-date Windows OS you can feel safe. I have never had any big problems with my windows powered computer because of viruses etc. Also, when more people use Linux/Apple more viruses will come to these aswell. Sure Windows will always be more extreme when it's built so poorly...
  7. From: APEC = climate change distraction, polar bears disappearing = climate change reality[/url:c45f4] George Bush and John Howard did their best this week to try very hard to appear to be doing something about climate change at the APEC meeting in Sydney. With other pacific rim countries they declared some completely meaningless “voluntary, aspirational” goals for reducing emissions which is just polluting business as usual. As Catherine puts it: "The Sydney Declaration is really just a Sydney distraction from real action on climate change" The fact that Australian Deputy Prime Minister Mark Vaile then had the nerve to call the distraction “historic” would be almost as funny as this APEC security breach stunt (video) if it wasn’t a very determined effort by Australia and the US to derail the Kyoto process (Kyoto being the only international way to actually reduce emissions). Back in the real world distractions like this means that the US is fiddling while species head to extinction. The National Snow and Ice Data Centre reported that this summer, the polar ice cap in the Arctic has shrunk by almost one million square kilometres below last year’s record melt. And yesterday the US Geological Survey reported that with the current rate of melting, by 2050 two thirds of the 16,000 polar bear population will be gone. They will disappear along the north coasts of Alaska and Russia and lose 42 percent of the Arctic range they need to live in during summer in the Polar Basin when they hunt and breed. A polar bear’s life usually lasts about 30 years. This is what the leaders DIDN’T talk about. This is the science behind the concern on global warming. This is why we need countries to commit to deep cuts in C02. We need atmospheric C02 levels to stabilise and start dropping within 10-15 years. This is a real, worsening planetary emergency, and in the real world no one in charge should ever be allowed to get away with “aspiring” to address a life threatening emergency.
  8. HAPPY BIRTHDAY! I hope you have one heck of a birthday party! [youtube:a79c8]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=97V8DcbDOOs[/youtube:a79c8] And re-posted: [youtube:a79c8]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yj6cbM-h8xg[/youtube:a79c8]
  9. The Guardian and A&C Black published a few weeks ago a set of amazing and scary set of satellite images that shows our destructive impact on our planet. A selection of spectacular satellite images, featured in Earth from Space, published by the Guardian and A&C Black, clearly shows man's devastating impact on our planet, from the disappearing Aral Sea to deforestation in Brazil, urban growth in Dallas and light pollution across the globe. The image above is an image of deforestation in Ghana: Deforestation in southwestern Ghana and southeastern Cote d'Ivoire to make way for cocoa production. The darker geometric shapes show the few remaining standing forests. http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/gallery...
  10. On October 15th over 4,000 blogs and websites with an audience of over 3,400,000 people will be talking about our environment. Some of these sites and blogs will also be donating their day earnings to an environmental charity. On October 15th, bloggers around the web will unite to put a single important issue on everyone’s mind - the environment. Every blogger will post about the environment in their own way and relating to their own topic. Our aim is to get everyone talking towards a better future. Some of the top notch blogs that will participate are SEOMoz, Lifehacker, ProBlogger, ZenHabits, Copyblogger and many more. This is a great idea and initiative – Green Blog has already registered our blog to participate and we really hope you will too. But, why stop at only talking and discussing the environment on one day? Why not go the whole way with your blog or website? Wouldn’t it be great if an majority of the participating blogs and sites moved to a green web host on or around October 15th? That would truly make an impact on people and especially web host companies. So if you are going to participate in the Blog Action Day, don’t just talk about the environment – help save it by choosing a green web host. The concept of search engine optimization was initially introduced by the advertising agencies, in order to take over the website marketing arena online. Later it evolved into the presence concept of internet network marketing. Later, there were more idea developments in the marketing plan. One of the first few packages was that of adsense marketing. Later methods like pay per click and inclusion came along.
  11. Yeah. Too bad that they dont have the support from their very own president...
  12. Ask.com is a search engine company just like Google is but not that popular outside the USA. Now when that has been explained lets get to the point shall we? Ask.com recently started to work with Dell, the computer company, to transform their current servers to more energy-efficient severs with the use of Dell’s Data center Solutions Division. Ask.com has said that these new servers will use 30 percent less energy than the old ones and still be able to perform the same tasks. But the story doesn’t end at more energy-efficient severs. Ask.com has also, as the first corporate customer, joined Dells "Plant a Tree for Me" program. It is said that thanks to Ask.com thousands of trees will be planted. This "Plant a Tree for Me" program is a partnership with the Conservation Fund and Carbonfund.org and non-profit organizations.

  14. Thanks daim! You are ALL awesome!
  15. Yes I am aware of that. But if you look at the operating systems like Ubuntu you can clearly see they have a long way left until they can work for the average computer user. I for example cant use Ubuntu because I need Adobe Photoshop, Macromedia Dreamweaver and InDesign in my work. And Ubuntu (for example) don't support these softwares...
  16. It's too bad that Linux at it's current state won't work for the majority of the computer users.
  17. I think we need a poll that shows where people are standing in their politicial views here on Green Blog. Where do you stand in politics? Left, right, middle, green or something else? VOTE! Edit: You can now choose up to two different options if needed.
  18. McDonalds in Sweden bans water on bottle from their 226 restaurants. The ban starts from 11 October when all the stored bottled water is expected to be depleted. Instead of water on bottle they will offer their customers "ordinary" tap water. In Swedish: http://www.aftonbladet.se/klimathotet/article705941.ab[/url:db3c2]
