The BlueCar electric car by Pininfarina and Bolloré
Simon commented on Simon's article in Cars & Transportation
This car makes me want to invest in a drivers license... Almost. -
Stand up, all victims of oppression, For the tyrants fear your might! Don't cling so hard to your possessions, For you have nothing if you have no rights! Let racist ignorance be ended, For respect makes the empires fall! Freedom is merely privilege extended, Unless enjoyed by one and all. So come brothers and sisters, For the struggle carries on. The Internationale, Unites the world in song. So comrades, come rally, For this is the time and place! The international ideal, Unites the human race. Let no one build walls to divide us, Walls of hatred nor walls of stone. Come greet the dawn and stand beside us, We'll live together or we'll die alone. In our world poisoned by exploitation, Those who have taken, now they must give! And end the vanity of nations, We've but one Earth on which to live. So come brothers and sisters, For the struggle carries on. The Internationale, Unites the world in song. So comrades, come rally, For ..... And so begins the final drama, In the streets and in the fields. We stand unbowed before their armour, We defy their guns and shields! When we fight, provoked by their aggression, Let us be inspired by life and love. For though they offer us concessions, Change will not come from above! So come brothers and sisters, For the struggle carries on. The Internationale, Unites the world in song. So comrades, come rally, For ....

It's May Day! May Day occurs on May 1 and refers to the Haymarket affair or any of several public holidays. In many countries, May Day is synonymous with International Workers' Day, or Labour Day, which celebrates the social and economic achievements of the labour movement. Have you been out protesting? Sometimes I regret living in a small village... This is how people marched during May Day in Stockholm, Sweden, last year: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IJpLGhvlPUo

Well you know what Pablo Picasso said: Good artists copy. Great artists steal. ;)

I am not really sure but I think "EAS445" is talking about something like this: Transparent glass containing solar cells the future of solar-powered houses?

Solar Power System in Nevada Desert Reaches Grid Parity
Simon replied to mountainhiker's topic in Renewable Energy
Nah I just think Mountainhiker doesn't like democrats in general! But I think it's sad that he saying such bad things about (Nobel prize winner!) Al Gore. No matter if you are left or right in the political sphere you have to give credit to Al Gore and the work he has done so far for raising awareness for climate change. I would even go so far as saying Gore is the smartest politician in the USA. Gore would have been a great President if Bush and the other fascists didn't steal the election from Gore. Back on topic: James Lovelock, a strong proponent for nuclear energy, recently said this about nuclear energy: "It is a way for the UK to solve its energy problems, but it is not a global cure for climate change." -
Well I must confess I didn't do anything particular good for the environment. I spent the day playing left4dead with my friends.

A zero waste week? Is that even possible!? :cute: And yes, of course can you put your blog's link in your signature. :)

I have written about the EarthDrive on Green Blog... I would think you have to return it to a recycling station that take care of computer and other electric stuff. It's just that all parts on this USB drive can be recycled. I have no idea but I would guess a few shops in Europe are selling this USB drive. But you can always buy it online. I doubt that. But like above I have no idea. I would think the takeback program is only available in USA. In Europe you can just go to the nearest recycling station and hand it in.

Yes I agree. Bailing out the failed auto companies is a MAJOR mistake from Obama. It's a waste of money and time. It would have been much better (in the end) for the auto companies to go under and be replaced by new smarter and more modern companies.

I am still looking for real action on man-made climate-change, and not just good speeches. And I think he is too "right-wingish" in his politics. But of course he is much much much better than the climate wrecker George Bush. And I agree with you that it's too early to judge him.

Today Barack Obama has been in office for 100 days. What are your thoughts and views on his first 100 days? Has he failed, succeeded or been too soft against the far-right Republicans? :cute: Also, dont forget to vote in the poll! ;)

It's not a mutation. As the article states: "The local forestry unit in the city identified the nightmarish creature as a bamboo rat from initial photographs, but said that it would need to examine the rat more closely before making a final identification. Chinese bamboo rats rarely grow beyond ten inches and are found throughout southern China, northern Burma and Vietnam. However, the Sumatra bamboo rat, usually found in the south-western Chinese province of Yunnan and in the Malay Peninsula can grow up to 30 inches long, including tail, and can weigh up to eight pounds. A "Giant Rat of Sumatra" is mentioned in the Sherlock Holmes tale: The Adventure of a Sussex Vampire. All bamboo rats are slow-moving and usually spend their time in underground burrows, feeding on bamboo. Chinese bamboo rats are often sold for meat in Chinese markets. The largest rats in the world are thought to be African giant pouched rats, which can grow up to 36 inches in length."

Just like Mountainhiker said, eating less meat is major step in the right direction. I am trying to eat as little meat as possible too. And when I do eat meat it is mostly just "low co2 meat" such as chicken, pig and lamb. I've tried to go completely without meat but I just can't stand the vegetarian replacements for meat. They taste awful! :yuck:

Nuclear energy is madness because it is Expensive, Dangerous, Not Cost-Effective and Will Worsen Climate Change. Simply put: nuclear power is not the answer to our energy and climate crisis. :cute:
-
It doesn't. But it can. Check this out: Sweden’s biggest wind farm is in planning stage, will supply as much energy as a nuclear plant Wind and solar energy could power 40% of global electricity demand by 2050 But one thing is for sure. The nuclear energy does not create as many high-tech and green job as renewable energy does. It just creates expensive waste that we have no clue what to do with it. Oh wait. We can always build nuclear bombs with them! China's leaders are investing $12.6 million every hour to green their economy: http://ow.ly/3yhl

Today it's Earth Day, a day intended to inspire awareness and gratitude for the environment. And could you find a better way to celebrate the Earth than becoming a climate activist? No, I think not. ">" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="550" height="330"> "We're mobilising 3 million people to join our fight for the climate, to force governments to act against runaway climate change. Help us reach our goal! Become a climate activist by signing up for free so we can send you action alerts and, about once a month in most countries, our newsletter." Watch the video on YouTube and become a climate activist! And when you are at it why not plant a tree, or more, in honor of Earth Day? Or you could just join our environment forum and help us plant trees.

I just get a domain parking page... :yuck:

Earth Day is celebrated April 22 every single year, both held annually during spring in the northern hemisphere, and autumn in the southern hemisphere. These are intended to inspire awareness and appreciation for the Earth's environment. The United Nations celebrates an Earth Day each year on the March equinox, a tradition which was founded by peace activist John McConnell in 1969. A second Earth Day, which was founded by U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson as an environmental teach-in in 1970, is celebrated in many countries each year on April 22. What are your thoughts about Earth Day? Will you do anything special on Earth Day? Is Earth Day a day worth celebrating or is it a waste of time? Do we really need a special day to celebrate and put environmental issues in the spotlight?

Creative recycling experts Ken Kobrick and Angela Greene of Passchal Products were recently posed an unusual question. Linda Thomas of the Whole Foods Market contacted them in October 08 and asked: "We have large vinyl banners that we use on a regular basis. Unfortunately, they can’t be recycled, so we’re trying to find another use for them. Since you use recycled materials in your bags, would you be interested in using our banners?" So Ken and Angela came up with a new and artistic way to make good use of the banner material. They incorporated banner material along with the inner tubes of recycled tractor tires into a unique set of high fashion bags specially designed for Whole Foods shoppers. “Each bag is original with the colorful message that comes directly from the Whole Foods banner.†Every single one of them is different," said Ken Kobrick co-owner of Passchal. http://www.passchal.com/

Wow. Loads of crap right there. The most pointless thing there must be the Green Capsule. "The Green Capsule is a tiny plant inside a keychain or pendant. Essentially it’s a seed and a small quantity of soil. However, once the seed germinates, you’ll need to remove it and replace it with another seed. It serves no practical purpose, and at $84, it’ll make your eyes water too!"

Here is some weekend fun from Supernews, an animated sketch comedy series airing on Current TV every Friday night at 10 PM E/P. Going Green: A wannabe environmentalist just doesn't get it. President Obama hosts a star-studded SuperNews! full of "recycled" cartoons from classic episodes.
