  6. In Sweden we dont have any commercials for cigarettes. We also have a warning text on the cigarette packages. We also just to have a ban on commercials for various Alcohol drinks. But EU stopped that one because they thought it was a threat to the "free market"...

  14. Thousands of scientists has already proven several times that global warming is real and something that we humans have a major part in. Joint statement by 11 national science academies to world leaders Temperature change 1765-2100: Graph excerpted from the IPCC's Third Assessment Report showing past and predicted changes to global temperature. - Certain gasses, such as carbon dioxide, in the atmosphere create a "greenhouse effect", trapping heat and keeping the Earth warm enough to sustain life as we know it. - Burning fossil fuels (coal, oil, etc.) releases more carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. Although not the most potent greenhouse gas, carbon dioxide is the most significant in terms of human effects because of the large quantities emitted. - Carbon dioxide concentrations in the atmosphere are now the highest in 150,000 years. - The 1990's was most likely the warmest decade in history, and 1998 the warmest year. - A certain amount of additional warming - about 1.3º Celsius (2.3º Fahrenheit) compared to pre-industrial levels - is probably inevitable because of emissions so far. Limiting warming to under 2° Celsius (3.6°F) is considered vital to preventing the worst effects of climate change. - If our greenhouse gas emissions are not brought under control, the speed of climate change over the next hundred years will be faster than anything known since before the dawn of civilization. - There is a very real possibility that climate feedback mechanisms will result in a sudden and irreversible climate shift. No one knows how much global warming it would take to trigger such a "doomsday scenario". http://gristmill.grist.org/skeptics http://www.ipcc.ch http://www.grida.no/climate/ipcc_tar/index.htm http://www.climatenetwork.org/docs/CAN-DP_Framework.pdf http://www.greenpeace.org/raw/content/inte...nce-with-th.pdf http://www.newscientist.com/channel/earth/climate-change http://magma.nationalgeographic.com/ngm/04...ure1/index.html

  16. Welcome to the forum Shane. Let me try to explain it a bit shortly. Global warming is real. It has been proven over and over again by thousands of scientists. Global warming is an fact and it has been created by us humans and is not a "Natural Cycle" or made by "solar patterns". This is the latest researh on this area: 'No Sun link' to climate change: Sun's output has declined but Earth temperatures have risen. Don't believe the few who says that global warming is a lie and nothing we can do anything about. They are just a bunch of selfish idiots that are probably paid by an oil or gas company. Global warming doesn't just mean that the planet will get hotter. Some countries will expereince severe rains and storms. We can already see this happening. Take Great Britain as an example. They have experienced massive rain and floods. And all this while the southern countires in Europe have experienced massive droughts. Global warming is basically an increase in global temperatures. Global temperatures is not like the temperature outside your house. One degree increase in global temperatures can mean catastrophe. Did you know that we have less than 8 years on us to stop our useage of fossil fuels and reduce our emmissions with around 90% worldwide or the global temperatures will rise above 2 degrees and there will be no turning back. If we don't stop the temperatures to rise above 2 degrees we will reach 6 degrees around year 2100 and we will all be dead. An 6 degree increase in global temperatures maybe doesn't sound much but globally its HUGE! An 6 degree increase means that all glaciers, north pole etc will melt. Floods, droughts and fireballs will rain from the sky. At an 6 degree increase life on this planet will almost be impossible. Please tell me if you have any more specific question! Oh and sorry for my bad english.
  17. Yeah, a lot of places will be affected from global warming. Greece and the other southern countries in Europe may become unliveable by year 2050. But, we shouldn't forget that cultures and countries already now are seeing the effects of global warming. A country (cant remember the name) that exists of several small islands in the South Pacific Ocean is already moving people away from the country (and to nearby countries such as New Zealand) due to rising water levels.
  18. First of all let me make it clear that I don't believe in any God or religion. My personal opinion is that if you need to believe in a God you basically disrespect nature and all it's powers. But thats another story... Now to the point of this thread: Wouldn't religious people and groups be the ones that try to be as green as possible? Why don't priests and other religious front-people speak out about the environment and really try to educate their assemblage about global warming? I mean, wouldn't they want to take care of what their God have created? Wouldn't they want to take good care of Gods "house"? Cause I wouldn't be happy if I were God and the people I have borrowed my "hosue" to just trashed and destroyed it. Or do they believe God will come down to the earth and fix everything?
  19. Ohhh I haven't heard about any wires over at NASA.. By the way. How is the talk over at Florida about all the storms and potential storms that will come in the future? Are people worried about the fact that storms may become stronger and appear more often due to global warming?
  20. The huge, award-winning, green blog TreeHugger was recently acquired by Discovery Communications. Close to four years ago, TreeHugger was founded with the goal of helping to push sustainability into the mainstream. Today, as an award-winning Top 20 blog having served over 50 million pages, we like to believe that we've played a part in pushing green towards its tipping point. Today, we are proud to announce another big step toward that goal; Discovery Communications has acquired TreeHugger. This means that more money will be invested in TreeHugger and their Digg-lookalike site Hugg. In return TreeHugger will help Discovery Communications with the new site Planet Green that is currently being built. http://www.treehugger.com http://www.hugg.com http://www.discovery.com

  23. Projected Water Shortages 2050: Based on projections made by the International Water Management Institute[/url:c6fcb], freshwater shortages are likely to become more prevalent among poorer, rapidly developing countries in Africa and Asia by 2025 — a consequence of overpopulation and poor water infrastructure. Developed countries in Europe and North America will not see a serious threat to their water supply because of their wealth and technology, and because many of their populations are expected to decline over the coming years — thus better aligning them with their needs. These are only projections, of course, so we may end up facing a much harsher reality in 2025 — or, hopefully, a more pleasant one if we do a better job of addressing the underlying problems.
