Thats a lot of things to believe in :excl:
-
We are all believers, even if we believe in non-believing. We create our own reality - or we could let someone else create it for us - or we are a combination of the two. http://www.lamrim.com/hhdl/heartsutra.html

Have just watched both films. Do not think either side is 100% right or wrong - but worth watching, because it is good to re-question what you believe :thoughtful: Might put another post on....when I have done more thinking :thoughtful:

Video does not work on the PC I am mainly using - cost £9.99 (117.976 SEK) from eBay and has 128 RAM, and Flash 7 - I enjoy using such a low spec machine. I never get near the Core Duo, so have had a look on the iMac. I must be sad but on Vice City, the quarry truck was what I liked best + it did not have a radio! Thanks, from the song Something For Nothing on the Rush album 2112: Something For Nothing Waiting for the winds of change To sweep the clouds away Waiting for the rainbow's end To cast its gold your way Countless ways You pass the days Waiting for someone to call And turn your world around Looking for an answer to The question you have found Looking for An open door You don't get something for nothing You don't get freedom for free You won't get wise With the sleep still in your eyes No matter what your dreams might be What you own is your own kingdom What you do is your own glory What you love is your own power What you live is your own story In your head is the answer Let it guide you along Let your heart be the anchor And the beat of your own song

-
Our Lewis is of to China to work for a year. Shortly we will be going to Manchester airport, tonight he gets a flight from Manchester into terminal 5, and then one out to Hong Kong, before the local flight to Nanning. Fingers are crossed.

Why is climate change not in the USA primaries?
Steve_Barker replied to mountainhiker's topic in Politics and Current Events
Big deal. Someone who talks about a seachange in outlook and behaviour has start with a reviwing their own lifestyle before preaching to others. Churchill could get away with a champagne and cigar lifesyle, whilst normal people had rations. In the battle for a green future "do as I say" is no longer going to wash. -

Why is climate change not in the USA primaries?

To have any chance of changing peoples perceptions you have to Walk the Walk. Gore Talks the Talk: http://www.snopes.com/politics/business/gorehome.asp http://www.usatoday.com/news/opinion/edito...ore-green_x.htm I do not expect anyone to be perfect, but taking the Michael........ Similary, how can you take Tony Blair seriously as someone who realy intends to change the world as UK Climate Change Envoy, when he did little, or nothing to combat climate chane as UK Prime Minister, and he drives a Chrysler Voyager. -
A Picture is Worth - Albatross Carcass

Gigha has a population of 110, and everyone could see themselves benifiting from the turbines. Hence, a 100% show of hands in the village hall (the place you go on Wednesday afternoons for home made cake). Last year people from the island of Tiree http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tiree visited Gigha to look at the possibility of installing community owned turbines on their island - Tiree is not a community owned island, but there is a Hebridean joke - How do you tell a man from Tiree? He walks at 45 degrees to compensate for the wind. -

Gigha is community owned, and runs its own wind turbines, the profits from which are returned to the community: http://www.greenenergy.uk.com/sitecontent/...ease.aspx?id=94 :crazyhappy: :crazyhappy: :crazyhappy: -
Q5. “More than 80 percent of the lifetime energy consumption of a PC occurs before you buy it. Your Answer: True 10 out of 10 points. True. Not only does manufacturing a PC use a lot of energy, it also usually requires ten times the PC’s weight in fossil fuels and chemicals, most of which are toxic. So, even though you might be tempted to get a new PC every three years (as the average person does), the longer you can keep your current PC in service, the better for the environment.” Further proof that Linux is greener. It is good to keep equipment going/functioning. See: http://green-pc.blogspot.com/2007/12/linux-is-greener.html

Apple is now greener than Microsoft
Steve_Barker replied to Green Blog's topic in Science and Technology
Mac greener than M/soft - would not doubt it. I would argue that anything which helped stop Microsoft having a monopoly of the IT world was green (I see green as more than just environmental). I would argue that any PC can be made greener, install Linux or FreeBSD. With respect to Nintendo, the Wii uses a fraction of the energy when playing intensive games, that that the PlayStation uses when in standby mode - but this is not included in Greenpeaces “green” calculation. -

Last year we went to Gigha, a small island off the west coast of Kintyre, Scotland, for our holidays. http://www.gigha.org.uk/index.php If you want somewhere thats as near to paradise as you can get, Gigha is the place. However, even on a small island which feels remote from the world plastics rear there ugly presence. Near the top of the island aretwo beaches which are on either side of a piece of land connecting an “almost” island, see Twin Beaches pic below: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gigha The southern beach is on an ocean current and is continually deluged with plastic, bottles, pill blister packs, carrier bags, etc - the northern beach (and the rest of the island) is sheltered from the the current and has the most wonderful beach/s. -
The thing I found strange was the picture with a Segway: http://www.europe2008.org/uploaded_images/...-681-711720.jpg Here, I the English Midlands the Segway is but a myth, a bit like the Sea Dragons on the edge of Medieval maps - these things exist, out there somewhere..... The picture confirmed what I though: a waste of resources, why not walk and get some exercise. All in all the earlier English equivilent seems better (and great fun - only driven one once), the Sinclair C5: http://www.sinclairc5.com/

I am not keen on the ranking system. I tend to think it encourages people to post pointless posts, just to gain some sort of "status" upon a forum. 700 postings of "VERY FUNNY LOL" do make someone a forum hero :sceptical:

Where do you stand in politics?
Steve_Barker replied to Simon's topic in Politics and Current Events
Member of UK Green Party since 1983. Have stood in several elections and polled more votes than all the major parties (and a few minor ones), but never all in the same election Have found that even when not elected, the potential of losing votes to the Greens focuses politicians minds, and things improve. When elected Greens can achieve a lot: http://www.greenparty.org.uk/news/3356 Hence, voting Green is a Win Win thing  -
In the UK we have an Ecology Building Society, their Annual Review arrived in the post this morning. They are very small, but offer mortgages on properties others would not touch, energy efficient, old building conversions, straw bales, etc. http://www.ecology.co.uk

Think this site is very similar, UK based: http://actonco2.direct.gov.uk/carboncalc/html/index.aspx There is a Flash version, but I've listed the html version, not a Flash fan.

Why is climate change not in the USA primaries?

Just seen that Nader is going to run, yet the green primaries are still going on http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/7261670.stm Will there be a Green candidate and Nader? -

Lets hope someone else gains the Green nomination, and she either gets on and supports them, or moves on. -

Had a look at the following: http://www.indybay.org/newsitems/2008/0 ... 477634.php In the UK the Green Party has had an electoral agreement with Mebyon Kernow, the party of Cornwall http://www.mebyonkernow.org In Leeds the Greens and the Liberals ( http://www.liberal.org.uk/ ) agree not to stand against each other. If you look at Mid Beds Council websites list of councilors, you find that for practical reasons (UK councilors only get admin support if there is a group, i.e. 2 or more) the 1 green councillor is a member of the Independant group: http://committees.midbeds.gov.uk/mgMemb ... &PIC=0&J=1 So I can see some sense in working with a local party in New Orleans. I do not believe there is a right or wrong way to be politically green - but a willingness to look beyond what we have now, and being prepared to work towards it.
