Burnt Athens And Flowers

What I realised when visiting the centre of Athens after all the strikes and the riots and the anarchists burning public and private property, was something I had never expected.

Two days after the incidents everything was black and burnt, bus stations broken down etc etc. And there,in front of the national library, the flowers and small bushes were untouched. Like nothing had happened, like noone had been running like crazy around, throwing rocks and burning bins.

Sounds wonderful, doesnt it? People didnt even step on the grass while all those catastrophes were done, and all the small flowers were there, happy as ever.

Though on the other hand, could they have just ignored them? Those who wanted to destroy public property were thinking what is more important, and that's what they destroyed..Did they think that flowers and trees are so useless that didnt even deserve their attention in their attempt to hurt the city and the citizens' feelings?
