Tapping Maple Trees

I live in the Northeast and every year watch the local farms tapping trees to collect sap. Last year we visited the open house at one of these farms - kids loved it and want to tap our trees at home. www.tapmytrees.com provides a starter kit which looks interesting. Has anyone tapped trees at home? If so, how hard / easy is it and how much sap will we get?
