A new scientific study shows that Monsanto's highly popular weed-killer Roundup cause severe liver damage. It will also increase the risk of other illnesses including diabetes, heart attacks and strokes. AJE reports: Study linking Roundup to serious disease fuels debate

British scientists say they have conducted an unprecedented, long-term study showing a link between Roundup - one of the most widely used herbicides in the world - and severe liver damage in test rats.

Scientists from King's College London, whose findings were  published in the journal, Nature , earlier this month, said their tests used cutting-edge technology to demonstrate that "extremely low doses" of the herbicide administered to rats through their drinking water had caused "non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD)" over a two-year period.

NAFLD can lead to more serious liver disease such as cirrhosis, and increases the risk of other illnesses including diabetes, heart attacks and strokes.

While Monsanto continue to claim the product is safe for humans, this new research will surely spark further debate over the potential dangers and health hazards to people and animals from exposure to Roundup, as well as other weed-killers. What do you think?

This is outrageous!

When Bayer acquired Monsanto back in 2018, the manufacturer promised that it would make Roundup safer by removing the cancer-linked glyphosate from its weed-killer products by 2023. But an analysis, by Friends of the Earth, of the new Roundup shows that the weed killer is actually 45 times more toxic to human health.

"With the new formulations of Roundup, Bayer had the opportunity to make us safer, but it did the opposite," Kendra Klein, deputy director of science for Friends of the Earth, said in a press release. "Bayer's willingness to deceive the public and disregard our health as it continues to cash in on the Roundup brand name is outrageous."

The analysis shows that the cancer-linked glyphosate remains in Roundup and that it contains new and even more dangerous chemicals:

Roundup products sold to consumers now contain combinations of four new active ingredients as replacements for glyphosate: diquat dibromide, fluazifop-P-butyl, triclopyr, and imazapic. All four chemicals pose greater risk of long-term and/or reproductive health problems than glyphosate based on the EPA’s evaluation of safety studies. They have been linked to a variety of harms to human health, including birth and developmental abnormalities; reproductive dysfunction; kidney or liver damage; and irritation, inflammation, or allergic reactions affecting the skin, eyes, and respiratory system. The worst offender is diquat dibromide, found in all of the new Roundup formulations. It is 200 times more chronically toxic than glyphosate, is classified as a highly hazardous pesticide, and is banned in the European Union.
