Juicing the Pain Away
"Take Two and Call Me in the Morning" is the classic doctor line given to patients who call complaining of vague (but real to them) aches and pains. In 2014, the updated phrase should be 'Juice this and Call Me in the Morning'.
Many of us experience chronic pain which may or may not have been diagnosed with a treatable root cause. The most common solution is self management with over the counter pain medication. OTC medication becomes a short-term solution with long-term concerns with extended and heavy use of aspirin, Tylenol, or ibuprofen.
A great alternative pain management strategy is selecting specific fresh juice recipes that are packed with fruits and vegetables that have been shown to reduce pain directly or through reduction in inflammation.
Pain Relieving ingredients:
Green and Jalapeno: These peppers contain high levels of capsaicin. Capsaicin blocks the transmission of pain in your body making a bit like a natural ibuprofen.
Turmeric: The turmeric root is a well know natural pain reliever because it contains curcumin. While you can purchase curcumin in pill form, juicing turmeric will let you enjoy the fresh 100% natural form. Curcumin actively lowers key enzymes that have been
shown to cause your body's inflammation levels to rise. (Source: turmeric health benefits)
Pineapple: Pineapple juice possesses an anti-inflammatory enzyme called bromelain. A common cause of chronic pain is due to joint pain caused by inflammation. The anti-inflammatory bromelian helps to natural reduce and eliminate joint inflammation.
Black Cherries: These dark cherries are packed with a chemical called anthocyanin. Anthocyanin reduces inflammation and related swelling which will in turn reduce the pain you feel on a daily basis.
