Tips for Designing a GardenMake sure your pathways are wide enough for comfortable passage. Nobody enjoys squeezing through narrow spaces, indoors or out. Main thoroughfares should be wide enough for at least two people to walk side by side, no less than 5 feet. For secondary paths where people walk single file, the width should be at least 3 feet. Keep in mind that the taller the plantings or structures that flank your walkway, the wider the path needs to be. Tall boundaries make any space feel more restricted. Outdoor steps and stairways should ascend gently; otherwise, they are liable to seem daunting. Steps with a rise of 6 inches or less are the most comfortable. The run (or depth) of each step plus twice the rise (or height) should equal 26 inches. So steps with a 6-inch rise would require a run of 14 inches. If your garden stairways include more than 10 steps, consider landings after every fourth or fifth step to ease progress. Landings should be at least as deep as the stairs are wide. A generous landing is an absolute necessity wherever a stairway changes direction.
  2. Gardening is my hobby. I derive great pleasure from this hobby. At the back of my house, there is a small plot of land. It is my garden. I grow flowers and some vegetables of the season on this plot. Beside this, I have a number of flowers-pots in which I have grown some very-green plants and some flowering plants. I indulge in my hobby early in the morning as soon as I am out of bed, or in the evening after I return from my college. I do not allow my hobby to come in the way of my studies. I carry on gardening only in my spar time. The act of gardening goes back thousands of years. If gardens are beautiful to look at, imagine the pride and sense of accomplishment that the creator of such beauty can feel. Besides that, gardening is a great way to reduce stress, get a bit of exercise, be creative, and develop patience. Numerous studies have been undertaken which show that gardening offers many health related benefits. The most obvious benefit of gardening is that it can be a great way to relieve stress. The hustle and bustle of everyday life is difficult to avoid. Work, family obligations, and social engagements are just some of the things that take up chunks of peoples' lives. With so much going on, many people simply forget to make time to relax and do the things they enjoy. Growing a garden requires both an investment of time and attention. Planning the garden and then caring for the garden offers the gardener a simple and inexpensive way to unwind and relax. Gardening can help a person clear the mind. Gardening allows the participant to refocus their attention on the creation.
  3. A wildfire is an uncontrolled fire in an area of combustible vegetation that occurs in the countryside area.Other names such as brush fire, bush fire, forest fire, desert fire, grass fire, hill fire, peat fire, vegetation fire, and veldfire may be used to describe the same phenomenon depending on the type of vegetation being burned, and the regional variant of English being used. A wildfire differs from other fires by its extensive size, the speed at which it can spread out from its original source, its potential to change direction unexpectedly, and its ability to jump gaps such as roads, rivers and fire breaks. Wildfires are characterized in terms of the cause of ignition, their physical properties such as speed of propagation, the combustible material present, and the effect of weather on the fire. 2007 California wildfires Each wildfire season in California seems to top the last, but the 2007 wildfires are especially notable for leading to the largest evacuation in California history. In total, the fires displaced nearly 1 million people and razed at least 1,500 homes in the San Diego area alone. The area covered by the various blazes was massive: more than 500,000 acres stretching from Santa Barbara County all the way to the U.S.-Mexico border.

    Water Supply

Water isn’t really something we think about. We pay our annual water rates and that’s about it. But if you’re moving house you need to find out who supplies water and sewerage to your current home, settling the bill and determining who your new water provide will be. It’s just a matter of information; unlike gas and electricity, you have no say over who your water supplier is. Richard Benyon, the Environment Minister, said: “This change will allow a huge number of extra businesses to search out better water deals by switching supplier.” The proposals have taken a couple of years to be implemented, having been made following the 2009 Cave Review into water markets. At the moment there is a monopoly on water supply in the UK with businesses having to rely on their rates from the same companies that offer you and I water supply in our homes. However businesses do have the benefits of lowering their water costs should they run the water supply efficiently, which effectively makes them water supply licensees.Ofwat, the industry regulator, said that this had meant that although seven companies are registered as water supply licensees, just one of more than 2,000 eligible businesses has ever chosen to switch providers.By the end of 2011 a White Paper will be released which details changes to the industry. Ofwat is hoping that the changes will make the industry more competitive and less open to monopolisation. That in turn should be good news for small and medium sized business owners. The same changes were made in Scotland three year ago and are generally thought to have lowered prices and increased customer satisfaction, even though Business Stream is still the main service provider. “Water makes up over two-thirds of the healthy human body. It lubricates the joints and eyes, aids digestion, flushes out waste and toxins and keeps skin healthy.” UK National Health Service guidelines. 1 Filtering your spring or borehole water will encourage you and your family to drink more water. Filtered water is nicer to drink than unfiltered water, why else would people buy so much bottled water or spend so much on jug filters. Most people who drink water from a spring or borehole supply comment on how beautiful it tastes. However, some waters derived from these private water supplies can have an unpleasant taste or odour. This may be due to iron, hydrogen sulphide, peat or several other contaminants.Passing water through appropriate filters can greatly improve the taste of your water, encouraging you and your family to drink more water. 2. Filtered water is safer. Water from a private water supply is totally natural. That is, it contains whatever pathogens that might be lurking in the environment that surrounds the source of the supply. In years gone-by that might have been cholera, typhoid or dysentery. Today it’s more likely to be Cryptosporidium, Giardia, Campylobacter or E.coli – pathogens that might not be as life threatening as the “the bloody flux”, but still, not very pleasantTreating your water with a properly sized and maintained UV purifier will make your water safe to drink.
