Our company, SOPOLEC ([url:1bwzdy9u]http://www.sopolec.com[/url:1bwzdy9u]) , is working to “ignite the green building revolution†in the Central and Eastern European region. We would like to connect with green building experts, investors, developers, strategic partners, technology vendors, and other revolutionaries to ensure the region develops sustainably. We are confident those combining a little gumption with green sensibilities will make a significant, positive intervention while realizing a promising business opportunity.

The CEE region suffers from poor housing stock left over from the prior era while positive economic development is driving intense demand for new construction. The number of projected new housing for Romania (where we are based) alone numbers around 500,000 new units. Combine this with the surrounding countries growth patterns and it is clear incremental improvements will not result in sustainable development.

There is also a myth that the region’s lower average incomes and assumed priorities mean less interest in building green. When we interact with active real estate developers, the majority say they are interested but cannot find the products, solutions, and expertise. The region’s prospective homeowners now have access to mortgage financing which has obviously increased the ability to finance early improvements in energy efficiency over the life of the building.

We will host a green building conference in Bucharest, are participating in a “building of the future†pilot project, and assisting the World Wildlife Fund in promoting a “conservation economyâ€. We have also launched EcoNavitas ([url:1bwzdy9u]http://www.econavitas.com[/url:1bwzdy9u]) – a dedicated green building support services company to support real estate developers’ efforts to reorient their offerings toward the next generation of energy efficient and environmentally-friendly homes.

Please contact us with your inquires or suggestions. We enjoy talking about the subject and getting things done. Please also forward this, at your discretion, to those you feel would be interested.

Warm regards from Bucharest,

Steven Borncamp
