Are you starting to feel like you are the only person in the world who hasn’t tried juicing? Have you done some research and want to give it a try but just aren’t sure where to start? Well today, I’m going to break it down into 6 easy digestible steps to help those that need a little push down the path of juicing.

Step One: Selecting a Juicer

The great news is there are several great juicers but that’s also the bad news as you can easily get overwhelmed with the styles, options, and price differences between models. Before picking a juicer you should consider 2 important questions that will help you find the right juicer for YOU.

  1. What is your budget? Most quality juicers run between $150 to $500 so as long as you can afford $150 you should be able to find a solid juicer.
  2. What produce will you juice? Centrifugal juicers are perfect for fruits and root vegetables. If you want to juice wheatgrass, nuts, or leafy greens you will need to buy a masticating juicer.

Top manufactures include Omega, Breville, and Kuvings.

Step Two: Select a Recipe and Shop for Produce

Recipes: The internet is packed with thousands of recipes but the best place to start at juicerecipes.com. They organize recipes by ingredient, health aliment, and even have a build your own recipe page.

Shopping: Always buy organic when possible as you will be juicing the produce whole and raw. Calculate out the amount of each ingredient based on the recipe and the amount you will need as to minimize left over produce.

Step Three: Food Prep

Wash, peel (always peel citrus), and cut the produce before starting your juicer to speed up the process. Make sure you cut the pieces small enough to easily fit down the feed chute to minimize the risk of clogging. If you really hate chopping, then consider the Kuvings Whole Slow Juicer. It’s the only cold press juicer with a feed chute large enough to accommodate an entire apple!

Step Four: Juicing

Setup up your juicer according to the manual and power it up. Slowly start feeding in the prepared produce. It’s best to rotate the ingredients to improve yield and reduce the risk of clogging up the juicer with soft mushy fruits.

Step Five: Taste as you go

Juicing recipes should just be a starting roadmap. Organic produce can have some variability in the strength and intensity of flavors. All of the ingredients you are using are very healthy so it’s important to focus on making a drink that you like and enjoy.

Step Six: The Clean-up

Before you start enjoying your juice it’s important to clean your new juicer right away. A secret first step is to simple poor a pitcher of warm water into the juicer with the power on. It loosens and even removes much of the pulp left in the juicer. Most models take only 5 minutes to fully clean and will ensure your juicer will operate effectively for years.

Bonus Step: Juice Cleanse

Once you have these 6 steps master then you can move on to trying a 3 day juice cleanse which is where you really start to get the benefits.
