There are many reasons why going 'green' is not only crucial for our survival, but also rewarding. I know this from experience, but also am a bit biased. As a member of Greener Carpet Cleaners, I have learned the many important ways in which a small business can make a big difference. Not only that, but also how you can benefit from it and grow.

Going green will cut the costs for you and for your clients

When you go green there is a significant reduction in costs be it your water or electrical bill, or other supplies. "Thinking of printing this e-mail?" Naah. Why waste paper? In addition, Replacing lighting fixtures alone can reduce a company’s energy use 25 to 30 per cent. Our company also manages to save money for our clients, as during cleaning we strive to do an excellent job while at the same time waste less water. There are many ways in which you can save money in your business niche and that can even allow you to lower prices and be more competitive on the market.

Your 'green' philosophy It attracts the right employees

You don't want people who are irresponsible, unable to adapt to change, closed-minded and careless. For the past 3 years now we have found out that 'green' employees are among the most efficient ones because they take seriously their responsibility, not just towards the environment, but to their work place. 'Green' employees are less likely to be wasteful of time and resources and will treat your office with respect.

It teaches your employees to be a part of the solution, not the problem

This will apply not only when they have to choose whether to recycle, or not. It will create a mindset in your entire organisation and your employees will act in a way that adds more to the solution and not the problem. Going green means taking an active stance. When your company is facing a problem you need active people to find a solution. 'Green' employees will make decisions based not just on profit, but on what "is the right thing to do".

It's healthier

There is an increasing amount of research showing that commercially-bought and heavy-duty cleaners are horrible for the air indoors and toxins cause many instances of asthma and allergies. Switching to greener solutions was natural for us, but you can do it in your office too. Ensure the health and well-being of your employees, while sparing the environment. If that's not a win-win, I don't know what is.

Going green will make your company a more desirable place to work

Recent research has found that people are a lot more likely to start a job in a company that changes lives for the better. Going green isn't considered as just "something nice" you could do, it might also be a necessary requirement for someone choosing to work for, or with your company.
