Caviar GreenPower 500GB hard drive

It wasn’t long ago since Western Digital teamed up with Kanguru in marketing a green hard drive for consumers and businesses. Now Western Digital is releasing a 500GB “green” hard drive that uses 30 percent less power than other hard drives.

The Caviar GreenPower 500GB hard drive is a 3.5-inch SATA drive that, according to the makers, only use 6 watts while working and only 3.3 watts while idle. According to them this is equal to a reduction of CO2 emissions by up to 13.8 kilograms per drive, per year.

i had heard of the Kanguru drive, but not this one. thanks for the heads up. would be nice to see displays go to oled! and flash based drives will help as well.
