G7 environment meeting skipped the climate crisis to not upset Trump and the US

A recent G7 environment meeting apparently skipped the climate crisis because they would rather not upset Trump and the US administration.

When environment ministers of the G7 met in Paris, France, for two days late last month, climate change was missing on the agenda. The topic had been dropped to avoid a conflict with the USA.

Representatives of the French government announced ahead of the meeting that the G7 gathering would instead deal with “less divisive” issues. French ecology Minister Monique Barbut said that G7 cooperation must continue to be “a forum for unity” and that climate change will not be raised because “the American position on the issue is well known”.

The USA did not even send its environment minister to the meeting, but was instead represented by Usha-Maria Turner, deputy administrator of the environmental agency EPA.
