  1. Corporate environmental responsibility is a unique business strategy, and it is increasingly gaining popularity in the United Kingdom and other countries of the world. Business organizations have the responsibility to cater to the needs of their stakeholders in the way they do their business, the same way they provide to the needs of their shareholders. Corporate Environmental Responsibility is equally referred to as Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), and it prompts business owners not to limit their purposes to commerce alone, but to also give a thought to their environment. CSR can be defined as the continuous commitment of business owners to ethics and their contribution to economic development and improvement in the quality of life of their workforce and their family members, not forgetting the welfare of the society and the community where they do business. Studies have shown that the economic performance of a company can depend on its attention to CSR. An organization that gives attention to its Corporate Environmental Responsibility will undoubtedly experience an improvement in the following: · Risk management · Recruiting process · Investor relations · Market positioning · Competitiveness Many investors will like to know how committed a business owner is to corporate environmental responsibility before investing their money in that business. So, how can a business organization promote its corporate environmental responsibility actions? Some of the tips to consider will be discussed below Have a clear focus First and foremost, you must define your corporate environmental responsibility for your industry or company and bring every member of staff up to speed about the development. Bear in mind that your CSR depends on your niche and it can differ from that of a company in a different niche. Consequently, what works for a furniture manufacturer may differ from what works for a bank, a grocery store chain or a bottling company. Make it known to everyone in the company and paste the information everywhere to ensure easy adaptation. You can even print the CSR focus of your company on popup tower stands and place them in strategic locations in the business outlet. Research essential You can further promote your organization's environmental responsibility action by carrying out continual and extensive research on what the concepts of CSR are. Two great places you can consult for research on the subject matter are the Global Reporting Initiative and the World Business Council for Sustainable Development. You can then compile the research reports and scrutinize them to arrive at a lasting conclusion regarding your corporate environmental responsibility. Measure your progress Listing your corporate environmental responsibility actions on popup stands UK can make the word to go round and bring all the intended people aware of the company's CSR. However, the work does not end there; it is essential to measure the impact of the effort and access any opportunity for improvement. The company should establish certain metrics that can be used in measuring the progress achieved in the CSR practices of the company. Find out the percentage of company income expended on supporting or promoting the CSR after tax. You can reduce the cost of a great deal by using popup stands. It is affordable but highly impactful. How does your effort compare to other companies in the same niche? How many hours are dedicated to the CSR effort periodically? You can either adopt qualitative or quantitative metrics, but your company will find it easier to defend quantitative metrics than qualitative metrics. Involve your employees All hands must be on deck if you are to promote your corporate environmental responsibility action at the workplace successfully. You must be ready to conscript your members of staff and make it mandatory for all to quicken the promotional progress. The employees can help in defining your company's CSR and advancing the effort. Why not form an ad-hoc committee consisting of some member of staff? They can be saddled with the responsibility of deciding how best the company can be appropriately responsible socially within the limits of the resources available. However, the use of popup stands UK can reduce how much the committee has to spend to promote your company's CSR. If given the required authority, you will be surprised at how much progress the ad-hoc committee can make in figuring out the best way to make it happen. These individuals can even do the work faster than some corporate committee. Keep an eye on the cost While it is a great idea to promote your corporate environmental responsibility actions, it is equally important to do that within your limited budget. First of all, determine how much your company can afford to spend on this project. Then, search for ways to cut cost as much as possible so that you will not hurt the company's finance or hamper profitability while promoting your responsibility to the society or your business community. The use of popup tower stands can go a long way in reducing how much your company will have to spend on this project.
  2. For decades, business has been depicted as an unstoppable force of pollution and wasteful practices victimizing the natural world. Now, however, increasingly efficient technology has made it both affordable and easy to reduce your company's impact on the environment. These are ten of the most quick and effective ways to green your office and contribute to the conservation movement. Mind the Lights In busy offices, it can be tempting to leave lights on at all times. Not only does this harm the environment by wasting electricity and requiring the manufacture of more light bulbs, but it also runs up your energy bill. A simple reminder to turn off the lights as employees exit a room is all that is needed to be more eco-friendly. Reduce Paper Consumption Despite operating in the digital age, many companies blow through reams of paper without a second thought and then throw it into a landfill to decompose. Paper waste is easy to overlook and even easier to correct. Set printers to print double-sided pages to automatically cut paper use in half, or buy recycled paper to save a few more trees. Whenever possible, keep documents digital and distribute them through email or cloud sharing. Even the paper cups seen so often in break rooms or by a water cooler can be replaced by personal mugs. Organize Car Pools Offices tend to draw in employees from miles away, driving alone for the entire trip. With some careful planning, commuters can lower their monthly gas bills while adding less carbon dioxide to the atmosphere. Encourage your workers to make plans based on geographic proximity and to trade off driving duties. Although it takes coordination and responsibility, an established car pool is easy to maintain and beneficial to all parties. Minimize Heating and Air Conditioning The perceived need to keep air at a steady temperature throughout the year leads to an overuse of heating and air conditioning when people are perfectly capable of acclimating to seasonal variations. A difference of a few degrees, lower in winter and higher in summer, will in all likelihood only be noticeable to accountants tallying up savings in your heating and air conditioning budget. Promote Recycling Recycling is one of the oldest methods used to improve eco-consciousness, and it remains one of the most valuable. Giving resources a second life removes pressure from the environment, which sustains a massive load of new development and mining in large part due to inefficiency and a reliance on immense landfills. Encourage recycling by placing bins next to regular trash cans and hosting educational workshops to refresh knowledge about what can and cannot be recycled. Businesses can further recycle paper, cardboard boxes and packing supplies, which is again likely to save money. Use Green Cleaning Products Air quality in an office can contain more pollutants than the outside world because of toxic cleaning supplies. These chemicals, when flushed down a drain, also contaminate water supplies and local soil, leading to a buildup that damages plants and animals in the area. Nontoxic cleaning supplies result in the same sanitary surfaces but are less damaging to employees and the environment. Buy Used Recycling supplies manufacturers with more eco-friendly materials, but it is better to recycle equipment as well. Used office furniture is just as practical as new and often shows little to no signs of wear. Even better, they come at a steep discount for the same quality. Another option is to rent serviced offices, which may be fully furnished and use fewer resources with every transition. Optimize Computer Settings Electronics are now so ubiquitous in office settings that they are left running without much regard for their energy consumption. Besides being kept on to needlessly sap electricity, they may also be running at a higher performance level than standard office work requires. Change computer settings to power saving modes so that they will go to sleep during stretches of inactivity and moderate performance. At night, unplug the power strip as well as shutting down the machines to prevent electricity leeching. Grow Plants Office plants are a beautiful accent that also improve air quality in a building. Businesses with grounds can take this one step further by planting trees or even converting some acreage to a natural ecosystem. Lawns, though pleasant to look at, demand far more water, nutrients and fossil fuels to maintain while providing no value to local wildlife. Consider Telecommuting More and more businesses are turning to telecommuting as a cost-effective way to reduce the space needs and environmental impact of their offices. There are still concerns about employee productivity, but dedicated workers can actually get more done without the worries of commuting and office politics. The move can cut costs for everyone involved and drastically reduce the environmental footprint of each employee.
  3. Hello everyone, I just jumped into this forum to learn more about what people are doing out in the big wide world. As a performance artist, working with theatre and dance while having been an environmental activist most of my life, I am currently working on a big project to make children aware about how easy and fun it can be to make your life more environmental- and climate-friendly. Together with a group of Danish artist, I'm trying to make environmental superheroes out of thousands of kids, to make important change happen from the bottom up; hoping that they will influence their parents, by having a fun reason to do things differently and better. It starts in Danish schools, on the internet and in the real world in September of 2014. When it launches in Denmark, it'll be described thoroughly and shared as an open-source project, including source codes for online games etc. so that anyone can recreate the project in their home-country, without having the initial work and costs that we have. If you're interested in the project, please check it out at our Indiegogo page (and you don't have to feel pressured into supporting, I just don't have the information posted in English anywhere else, as the project does not yet have it's own home-page). I'v been working on it for over a year and have done this in my free time(something of which I sadly have very little :-P ). Otherwise, you can always look up the project in about 6 months time, to see how far we are... which should be pretty far. Here's the project: http://igg.me/at/greensuperheroes/x/27522 Hope to hear more from you all. Keep up the good work, and remember that all change starts from each one of us, not through words but through actions. Regards Jens Bäckvall, Copenhagen, Denmark
