  1. Natural Medicenes

When I have a sore throat, I drink hot water with a splash of lemon juice and honey in it. It helps soothe the throat and clear up any congestion.
  2. How to Recycle Your Unwanted Christmas Presents

I don't regift. If I did not like the present, I don't want to give it to someone else. They probably won't like it either. That is not fair to them. That is not how I want to be treated, and I don't want someone else to feel bad. So, I either exchange it at the store or just keep it. It is the thought that counts, right?
  3. Are You Aware of What Plastics are Toxic?

Thank you for the great information. I only knew that you wanted to have BPA-free plastics. I always look for the sticker or label when purchasing new plastic items. Now, I feel a little bit more informed. Thanks again.
  4. Healthy Activities

If I showered in the rain, my neighbors would think I was NUTS! I can't do that where I live. It sounds fun though. Please don't take a shower outside when it is lightening and thundering outside though. That is dangerous.
  5. Green Family Activities

I also say to plant a garden. If not a full garden, then plant a few flowers, herbs, or a tree. Teach the basic conservation rules first. I would teach the child to turn off the lights when not in use, turning off the water while brushing teeth, and recycle. Make the activities fun. Maybe write a song or play about helping to take care of the earth. Make crafts with leftover materials like boxes, egg cartons, and scraps of used paper or newspaper.
  6. When you ride alone

Sorry, I am going to be the opposing side to this poster. I understand where they are coming from. I understand their ideas and motivations behind their thoughts, opinions, and advertisements. However, I think the ad with Hitler is downright appalling and rude. How can you even suggest this is ok? He was a man known for killing thousands, millions of innocent lives. To even suggest or hint that someone would be like him for "not sharing their car" is outrageous. I think there are better ways to educate the public about saving the environment. I think this turns people away more than helps.
  7. Do you use bicycle?

I do not own a bike. I did not learn how to ride one until I was about 15 years old. I am not very good at it. I am too scared. My city is not very conducive to bike riders.
  8. Folding Bikes

What is a folding bike? Is it just a bike that folds up when you are not using it? How small does it get when it is folding up? Are they easy to carry around and use?
  9. Stupid SUV owners...

Okay, the only reason I clicked on this article was because of the title. Not all SUV drivers are stupid. The driver was littering. That was the problem, not her driving on SUV. And I am someone who owns an van. I had to have a vehicle large enough for my family plus my equipment for work. I am NOT vain for needing and wanting a vehicle that fits my family. Granted, I did my research about the makes of the vans. I researched who gets the best gas mileage, where the cars were made, etc. Don't lump all SUV drivers and owners into the "stupid" or "they're unnecessary" box please.
  10. Reuse plastic bottles

Thanks for the great tips. I am going to have to try the broom craft. I don't think mine will turn out as nice. I am not very crafty.
  11. How to detect pesticide grown food?

I would research the farm or company. Most of the time, plants that have not been sprayed with pesticides have small spots of imperfections. They are still fine, taste great, and look good but not like waxed food. Sometimes you can smell the chemicals on the food.
  12. Soapnuts nature's detergent

Thanks for the information too! I have never heard of them before. Where and when did you first hear about them?
  13. Recycling rates in Europe

Do you know how the United States compares to Europe? Do we have the same recycling programs? What ideas can we share with each other?
  14. Living Off the Grid

How would he create energy from composting and use it for cooking? I am not sure how that is possible. I have a compost pile, and I use it in my garden. Is that what you mean?
  15. Eco trainers

Can someone please explain how clothing can be eco-friendly or environmentally friendly? I have never heard this term before with clothing, accessories, and fashion, and I don't understand what this means. I don't see how a company can claim this. I am just a little lost on this idea. Thank you.
  16. Living Off the Grid

Do you want electricity? Have you researched wind power? On a tv show, I saw a home that was heated by the earth itself. The house partly under the ground. They lived out in the desert and as the sun heated up the ground, the home took that energy, stored it, and used it for other applications. Pretty cool!
  17. Nuclear Radiation

I was trying to think back that far, and I don't even remember hearing that news. It is sad! Where I live, the local news media does not show many world events. If they do, it is a 30 second clip no more than one minute. I do know that nuclear radiation causes harmful effects, some still unknown. No one can state for a fact what the effects will be 50 years from now, but there will be harmful consequences.
  18. See, I really think that if every person does all these "small" things every day, they will add up to fix or help the big picture. I recycle. I conserve energy. I do not want to be involved with any organization because sometimes they push their agendas too strongly for me. I know not everyone will agree with this opinion, but that is okay. They aren't for me.
  19. How can we avoid climate fatigue?

Also, I think you just need to learn to appreciate and dwell in the beauty of the things around you. Yes, we need to help conserve, educate, and do our parts. However, I don't want to think about all the doom. I think change starts out small and gets bigger in time. Start with yourself then families then city, etc.
  20. The reputation system

I think it is a good idea. Being a new member, I am not worried about it too much. It makes me think about my posts and makes sure my points of conversations are valid. Plus, most forums have this system. Like you said earlier, it keeps those (I believe you called them) trolls away. I am here to learn, not cause issues.
  21. Wind power actually saves money!

This would be neat to have a wind mill or wind-power for my house. However, the city where I live will not allow individuals to have one in their yards. They say it interrupt the wires, satellites, etc. Maybe I need to move.
  22. How do you conserve energy?

To save energy -Turn off lights - Unplug things not in use - Dry clothes out on the line - Keep house at constant temperature so air/heat doesn't have to work all the time -Open windows whenever I can I know it is not much, but I think every little bit helps.
  23. Ways you conserve water

These are all great tips. I think I need to look into getting a rainwater barrel. I do not have one yet, and it sounds like I should. I could use the collected water around the house for cleaning.
  24. What kind of Towels are Green?

My sense of humor says the answer to your question would be "frog towels" since they are green, but I know that is not what you meant. I have heard of the bamboo towels on Shark Tank, but I have never seen them used. I think it would be more eco-friendly and more economic to use cotton towels. They wash over and over. They would not have to be shipped in from overseas. That is my train of thought. Someone please correct me if I am wrong.
  25. So, Pedestrian

I love walking for leisure and for exercise. It is very enjoyable if I go at my own pace. From my house, I can walk to one grocery store and two pharmacies. However, I cannot get around my city very well if I walk other places. My town is very spread out and many business centers or areas have no sidewalks. Of course, there are sidewalks in front of the buildings but not to and from my house. The roads are too busy with car traffic. I wouldn't risk it.
