Purchasing Power = Green Living

We are all sick of the sorry economy and all it takes with it, including life’s simple pleasures.  Magazines are going under at accelerated speed, with new ones sinking each week.

One that left us recently is popular green mag, Plenty.  And the latest to go under is Domino shelter magazine that included lots of eco-coverage.  Said Condé Nast  company spokeswoman, Maurie Perl,  “The economy just drove the decision to discontinue the publication.â€Â  Both Plenty and Domino websites are ending as well.

As many publications continue to fold under the weight of economic strife, there are a couple of new eco living magazines on the scene.  And while it is sad to see our favorites go, this is a great chance to put our purchasing power to work.  We consumers need to stop subscribing to not-so-eco friendly rags that are chock full of toxin loaded cosmetics, wasteful home ideas and super non-sustainable clothing and accessories, and opt for green reads instead.  This will not only help to keep these eco friendly magazines alive and well, but will help those who read them to better their own lives.

Organic Beauty magazine is one such newcomer that covers everything from natural skin, hair and nail care to natural alternatives to cosmetic surgery.  The first issue, released December 30th, included articles on sulfate-free shampoos and greening your makeup bag, plus a guide on natural and organic labeling.

Coco Eco is another new eco read that (and this carries a lot of clout) is an online only pub that helps to protect our environment by not only writing great green living articles but refraining from printing them.  Launched last  fall, Coco Eco includes top notch articles, product picks and free sign-up.

We can still have our simple pleasures.  But as with most things, good decisions now can help to bring a better future.
