There are many who think, that for SEO, keywords are becoming a thing of the past and in some instances they are right. To stay abreast of SEO experts, Google has had to revamp all the ways that it used to classify websites. That includes using keywords. There is one sticking point, however, when it comes to shopping, for lack of a better phrase, it is what it is. You can find a hundred different ways to say the same thing, but the name of a product is the name of the product, and there is just no way to get around that. The key to using keywords? You have to be creative, use them in the right amount, have them make sense and dont stuff them to drive traffic and increase ranking. What do I mean by that? I mean you have to use new ways to reinvent the wheel, or namely, new ways to use keywords.

Google used to use pretty simplistic ways to match websites with classifications. They would use the word that they were looking for, count the number of times that it was used, and then they would rank it along with other qualifying words and criteria. Nowadays they use things such as long-tailed keywords to increase validity, but what are long-tailed keywords?

Long-tailed keywords are the way in which we naturally use questions to find what we need. It isnt about just inputting a specific word or single phrase, but finding the way that they are used in the practical ways that we speak. For instance, if I wanted to know where to find the latest version of Call of Duty, I wouldnt just use Call of Duty in the search. I would enter the exact phrase new version of Call of Duty. Therefore, it isnt just about using specific keywords, but the whole of them in a sensical way.

Why is that different for shopping?

If you think about my last example, the keyword remains Call of Duty and the next qualifying is new version. Those are the keywords no matter in what order you use them, or how you ask the question. The quantity of your sale of the game is not going to be linked to the keyword sequence, rather just to the use of the product name. To effectively use the keyword to send Google to your page, you have to take into account other things besides long-tailed keywords that dont lend anything in the arena of shopping.

Other things that are going to help to rank your site higher is the speed of your download. Make sure always to use the latest technology to design your website. The download speed is going to affect your ranking far greater than the words you use in the content for shopping purposes. Using things such as online ratings and blog entries are also going to help your ranking.

When it comes to shopping, advertising pays

Another reason the keyword works is because everyone is going to be using the same keywords. For purposes of shopping, paying for exposure and advertising is a good idea. For shopping marketing, you may have to put the cost of the advertising and compare it to the units sold. The small additional marketing cost it takes to put you higher in ranking is most likely going to be made up for in the quantity sold. A cost-benefit ratio will guide you in the best way to place your advertising and marketing.

It is important to pay close attention to the number of times that you use keywords on your webpages. It is always best to use more pages and scatter the keywords. Having pages that also give blogs, descriptions and customer ratings is a good way to embed more rich keywords. If you try to pack them all into just one page, you are going to trip the search engines to something called stuffing. That is certainly not going to bolster your rating; it is going to make it take a hit. Creating more pages is the best way to increase your density without working against yourself.

Make links and use affiliate marketing

Perhaps the greatest way to increase your ranking for Google shopping is through the use of affiliate marketing and embedded links. Aligning yourself with other successful companies and products is a great way to enhance your own favorability. When possible, using various sites to affiliate market your product or things such as pay per click ads are both excellent ways to increase not only your ranking but your sales and exposure. Make sure to be careful who you are aligning yourself with. Just like in real life, you get judged on the internet by who you associate with. Know what the association is going to do for, or to, you.

There are many mediums for which keywords may be somewhat a thing of the past. Google shopping is necessarily not one of them. Dont worry too much about keywords in general when you are trying to sell your product, but look at them in relation to the whole of your marketing plan.
