About this blog

With Skype for Android phones you can send photos, videos and other files to your Skype contacts for free. You can also receive files and store them.

Mobile operator data charges may apply. To avoid data charges over a 3G and 4G networks, we recommend using a WiFi connection for sending files over Skype.

Sending files

Skype is great for sharing your files such as photos, documents or videos with your friends who are on Skype:

1.      Sign in to Skype.

2.      Go to the People list.

3.      Select the contact you’d like to send a file to and tap the plus sign in the text field.

4.      Tap Send file or Send photo (depending on which you want to send).

5.      If you're sharing a photo, choose Take photo to take a new photo, or tap Choose existingto send a photo you already have on your device.

6.      If you're sending a file, select the application you’d like to use to find or create the file (such as file manager or voice recorder). The file will be sent as soon as the recipient accepts the transfer.

Receiving files

If your contact sends you a photo, it will simply appear in your chat.

If your contact sends you a file, the file transfer request will be displayed in Recent alongside your call history, voice messages and instant messages.

To get the file, simply tap the transfer request and select Accept to start the download. Videos and photos will be saved to your gallery; anything else is saved to your downloads folder.

To view a file you’ve received, you don’t need to close Skype. Simply tap Open in the conversation window. You can have Skype running in the background while you’re viewing the file.

You can send and receive any type of file over Skype for Android and you can view any file you receive as long as you have the necessary software or app installed. There are no limits on the size of the file you can send. As long as the person you’re sending the file to has enough free storage space on their phone, they can save and store the file.
