Challenge: Move to a green web host

Listen up bloggers! Our goal is to spread knowledge of global warming among the blogosphere and to help fight it. We want to create a movement and show that bloggers from around the world can make a difference and change the world.

Does it sound like an impossible mission? Well maybe it is. Maybe it isn’t. One thing is for sure. We will need YOUR help to succeed. Do you want to help us save the world? Then join our movement! Spread the word! And join in on our challenges!

The First Challenge

This is our first and most important challenge we think we will ever post. This challenge is about changing the companies who keep our blogs and sites up and running. This challenge is to support green web hosts.

We want you to change your web host to a green web host, if you haven’t already done so. To help you on the way we have listed several Green Web Hosting Alternatives that you can choose from.

When you have moved your blog to a green web host please contact us or make a comment here and we will add it to the (growing) “Hall of Fame” list. We will also tell everyone about your blog on our own blog and community.

Why should I move?

It takes a lot of energy to power and maintain servers for a web host. Therefore one of the most important things you as a blogger or webmaster can do is to choose a green web host.

With green web hosts I mean hosting companies that power their servers with renewable energy such as wind and solar power. Some web hosts offers carbon offsetting, discounts to non profits, letting their employees telecommute, etc.

So when you choose a green web host you are helping out to support green and renewable energy sources. When choosing a green web host you also put pressure on the other “dirty” web hosts to take action against climate change.

Your web hosting service should basically be able to serve the purpose of web hosting & services. It definitely does not have to be the best email hosting. Companies like 1and1 as well as webhosting net have had a lot to contribute to the reliability of the site. But basically the image of the site also depends upon its seo. A lot of netfirms post regular job openings under the category of web hosting jobs that basically take care of seo and sem of the site.

Express yourself. Tell us your opinion.
