By Simon | No Responses

We understand that our first challenge “Move to a green web host” might be a bit hard and difficult to do. It’s hard to find a good web host that you personally can feel happy with. Or maybe you are afraid of moving your blog to a new web host, afraid of loosing those blog posts or anything else important.

But don’t worry! We will help you in any way we can. Because this is one of the most important things you can do to help fight global warming. You can contact us with any questions you may have about challenge number one.

Now lets start the tutorial!

7 steps towards energy saving

By Simon | 2 Responses

7 steps towards energy savingGreenpeace has very recently launched an online campaign where you sign up and every week a challenge is sent to your email. There is a total of seven challenges.

When you sign up, we’ll send you 7 challenges over 7 weeks. Each challenge will be something anyone can do, and comes with detailed advice (plus a chance to share your own ideas). We’ll also let you know about other ways you can help save our planet. Everyone’s talking about climate change. You’re doing something about it.

From what I have heard the final challenge will be something special. Eoin Dubsky from Greenpeace has this to say about challenge number seven:

Joining the campaign means you will get an email every week for seven weeks from Greenpeace (seven steps in total). Steps one, two and three are about changing your own lightbulbs and raising awareness about the campaign. Steps four, five and six are about demanding change from retailers, manufacturers and governments. Finally, step seven is a special surprise — all I can say is “action!”. :-)

Take action, join the challenge!

Green Web Hosting Alternatives

By Simon | 12 Responses

It takes a lot of energy to power and maintain servers for a web host. Therefore one of the most important things you as a blogger or webmaster can do is to choose a green web host.

With green web hosts I mean hosting companies that power their servers with renewable energy such as wind and solar power. Some of these green web hosts generate their own energy via renewable energy sources. Other web hosts offers carbon offsetting, discounts to non profits, letting their employees telecommute, etc.

Please check out our Green Web Host page for a more up-to-date list on Green Web Hosting Alternatives.

  • WebCtel - Solar powered hosting
  • SolarWebWorks - Solar powered hosting
  • EcoSky - Both wind and solar powered hosting
  • The Green Web Host - Mostly wind but other energy sources too
  • Locomotive Media - Wind powered hosting
  • Elfon - Wind powered hosting
  • SustainableMarketing - Wind powered hosting
  • Aiso - Solar powered hosting
  • Dreamhost - Insure that the power they use is generated in an ecofriendly manner. This is typically wind or solar, but it could also be biogas or geothermal.
  • Acorn Host - Sustainable growth, Non-profit discounts and purchases Green Certificates. Green-blog.org uses Acorn host and we are so far very happy with the service.
  • Green WebHost - Solar powered, paperless and will also plant a tree on your behalf.
  • Athenaeum - Solar powered hosting
  • Ilisys - Solar and wind powered hosting. Will also plant a tree on your behalf.

So which host should you choose then? Which is the best? I am sorry but I can’t tell you which host is the best because I haven’t tested all of them. You should always do a background check on any host you are interested in. See if they got some testimonials from customers. But any of these web hosts are better than your current one that isn’t doing anything at all to prevent global warming.

With numerous webhosting issues, it is truly a wonder that people still wish to have the best domain host. Both lunarpages as well as hostmonster effectively deliver website hosting services. In an era of such competition, it is tough pointing out to any one revolutional step.

If you are still one of those stubborn people who just won’t accept the fact that climate change is real and something that we must act fast to stop you should watch this video. This guy has an argument that I think even you people should find reasonable.
